When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who had come along with her also weeping, he was deeply moved in spirit and troubled. “Where have you laid him?” he asked.
“Come and see, Lord,” they replied.
Jesus wept. John 11:33-35
In a world lacking access to even the most basic medical care and pain medications, people struggling with HIV/AIDS and other chronic illnesses often suffer unnecessarily and die alone and in pain. We dream of a center where these individuals have access to medications and hospice services. We dream of the day that medical volunteers can help provide essential services. We dream of a center where nurses can be trained to provide compassionate and quality care.
Dr. Esther Lyimo from Gospel Herald Ministries has spent years directing the training and outreach program for HIV/AIDS. Recently she completed additional training for palliative care. UBIA Ministries has contributed to remodeling of a clinic for the first stage of the program if others will step forward to help subsidize operating expenses and salaries for the first few years. After that, it is contemplated that the palliative care facilities will become self-sustaining through the profits of an attached dispensary.
